Don’t Forget – Save The Date!
Dick Hoyt, the dad of the father-son Team Hoyt, will be Keynote Speaker at Human Resources Unlimited’s 2011 annual meeting fundraiser, Changing Habits – Transforming Lives. Incredibly, the internationally known triathlete and marathoner has competed with his disabled son, Rick, in more than 1000 events over the past 31 years. Together, Team Hoyt clearly demonstrates their alignment with HRU’s mission of full inclusion for all people, no matter their ability. Dick will share their amazing story at this year’s fundraising breakfast at the Sheraton Springfield at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 27th. HRU Annual Meeting Co-chairs, Timm Marini, of FieldEddy Insurance, and Daniel Flynn, of People’s United Bank, invite you to join them for another exciting event. Last year, New England Patriot great, Troy Brown, shared his life and football experiences with more than 420 community leaders. This year’s event will recognize our Rookie Employer of the Year and Employer of the Year, while HRU members share their compelling stories, and the highly anticipated 2011 Volunteer of the Year will be awarded. If you would like to be an HRU Community Champion (supporting our mission of full inclusion for the differently-abled by inviting 9 of your friends to join you that morning) or are interested in attending this event, please contact HRU at gro.URHnull@ofni or 413.781.5359. Numerous underwriting opportunities are available for this special event.

The Human Resources Unlimited (HRU) Café at the Jewish Community Center is the grateful recipient of $10,000 from the 2011 Big Y Paul H. D’Amour Memorial Charity Golf Outing. The funding allows the fledgling HRU Café to provide the Dickinson and Converse Streets area with a casual, easy to access café and partnering with the JCC raises community awareness about the abilities of all people by providing employment opportunities for individuals in greater Springfield with economic and disability barriers to employment. Members from two HRU programs, Lighthouse Clubhouse and Workforce Alternatives operate the Café, located in the lobby of the JCC on Dickinson Street and open to the public, Monday through Friday from 8 am to 3 pm, serving a variety of breakfast and lunch items.
Kathleen M. Plante, HRU’s Director of Development, notes “This generous award demonstrates Big Y’s and the Paul H. D’Amour Memorial Charity Golf Committee’s commitment to our community and will allow our members to continue their journey reentering the workforce – some after long and painful struggles with mental illness; others after years of cyclical poverty.” The JCC offered the partnership to HRU as a way of modeling the capabilities of the disabled and disadvantaged to the JCC community, as well as families of disabled children, demonstrating that, although an individual may be ‘differently-abled’ or have experienced chronic unemployment and poverty, they are still highly capable of making a valuable contribution to our community.
